Is religion an excuse to not be responsible for your spiritual growth?

I thought I would go way out of the box today in a way so to speak, and ask a question that may inspire some of you dear readers to ask a question.

Does religion limit your spirituality? Is it a crutch or an excuse to not be responsible for your spirituality or the nurturing of your spirituality?

Do you get your spirituality by reading a book, like the Bible or the Koran or the Torah? Do those books actually bring you to your soul within?

Have you looked within to find your soul or your higher self? If you have did you see and recognize your ego on the way?

Do you recognize the ego in your non acceptance of other religious beliefs? Beliefs are taught and can be transmuted over time and they can be distorted. Can we distort our souls?

Spirituality exists, it is not taught, egos are taught and conditioned by our existence our spirits are not. Love is not taught it is what it is, hate is learned and taught it is an ego based practice.

Just because the book says it is so do you ever question the book? What does your heart say?

Because your religion says it is the only way does that allow you to not be responsible for your individual actions?

You cannot tarnish your soul.. You can recognize it and embrace it, take guidance from it yet your ego can not tarnish it or harm it. It is the divine within and it loves you anyway in spite of your ego.

Do you hide behind your religion? The good book said.. What do you say?

If the good book wasn’t there for you to quote, what would you say about many of the issues in our world that plague humanity?

Most of the issues that plague humanity are brought about by religion! Does that make religion spiritual? Or do we base our religious beliefs and defend them because of our ego?

My dad is better than yours, nananana… My church is better than yours, na na na na na

I am not anti religious I am however responsible for my spiritual growth as a human being and wonder how many use their religious beliefs to avoid taking personal responsibility for their own spiritual growth…. After all the book says it all, what do I have to learn, all I have to do is read the book. The way to knowing your soul is to look for it within you! I commune with mine as I meditate and in turn I commune with all that exists as the divine is in all that exists it is part of my soul and yours…

Have you found your soul within?

Do you nurture your human self with the love of that soul?

Thank you for allowing me to share a few questions… I also wish to thank you for being you, you are quite amazing and I am grateful for your sharing your love and your smiles in doing so you are making our world a better place for all we share it with.

Namaste

  1. I am not bound by any particular religion or book – my spirituality is pulled from a lot of places – so I can only answer from observation. Formal religion, at least in the U.S., is experiencing a sharp decline, but I believe that many people DO use religion as a crutch of sorts. They allow their chosen leader to do the thinking for them, stop by once a week to get their “shot,” and then sort of put it away for the rest of the week (sometimes immediately after). Not true of everyone, of course, but I have seen it a lot. Peace . . .

  2. Religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell, spirituality is for people who have been there.

We are spiritual beings, having a human experience 🙂

  3. Great article! I love being responsible for my actions. I don’t have to ask the preacher if I’m doing the right thing. I know right from wrong! 🙂 I appreciate your perspective on religion.

    • Man is ignorant and blind, and he wants to remain ignorant and blind, because to come inwards looks like entering a chaos. And it is so; inside you have created a chaos. You have to encounter it and go through it. Courage is needed – courage to be oneself, and courage to move inwards. I have not come across a greater courage than that – the courage to be meditative.

But people who are engaged outside – with worldly things or nonworldly things, but occupied all the same, they think ….and they have created a rumor around it, they have their own philosophers. They say that if you are introvert you are somehow morbid, something is wrong with you. And they are in the majority. If you meditate, if you sit silently, they will joke about you: “What are you doing? – gazing at your navel? What are you doing? – opening the third eye? Where are you going? Are you morbid?…because what is there to do inside? There is nothing inside.”

I found this in an Osho essay and found it to be quite in line with the thoughts expressed and thought it may be nice to share it! 🙂 Thank you for being you and being awesome!

  4. Joe, another great post, and I have no doubts the intentions of religion with its common themes which run through each started out life with Love at its core concept.. But Man has corrupted its message to suit his own laws and fulfil his own agenda in indoctrinating thoughts to control and rule ..Mainly through fear.. this going right back to pagan times of worshipping Gods, Sacrificing .. Even Greek Mythology is full of War, Lust, Jealousies and Retribution..
We are but one particle in one corner of the Universe in Human Form.. who are trying to make sense of ourselves..

God, Goddess, Buddha, Allah. which ever name we use within our belief system at its core preaches Love.. This is the energy of love we are meant to feel.. find, express.. But throughout time here on Earth we have twisted the Truth and our primitive adaptation and distortion has meant each Group has moulded its own interpretation within their religions to control.. and use Fear too generate that control

The Ultimate Creative Force.. God Force- Source is pure Energy.. Love.. We are each finding our way back to this source.. We have the choice of frequencies.. Positive or Negative.. Good or bad..

Religion uses Sin to control and yet who is creating the the biggest sins in the name of religion? Saying if you sin you will not go to heaven and the like.. When in reality it matters not to the UCF if you sinned or not.. For the Laws of the Universe still dictate that you transcend through the dimensions,, Layers.. ( Mansions ) until we at last understand ourselves.. Which is coming to that unconditional purity of energy.. which we call Love.. Utopia.. Bliss… Earth is a school in my own opinion where we are learning but one aspect of Self/UCF.. as we experience the Material and Emotional Realms.. within our Human Form….

Religion is what we turn to as we need hope.. we turn externally for help thinking that we will be exulted or forgiven by some higher external force.. Its like we crave ‘Things’ external to our being thinking these ‘Things’ will bring us happiness, whether that be a relationship, a job, possessions, or what ever.. When ultimately we but need to look within to our own Ultimate Creative Force (UCF) . within our own being.. Our own Inner Light.. for we are part of that Divine Spark.. God source… We are the ones we have been waiting for all along..
When we figure that out as a collective, then we will be united back within the UCF that Oneness of which we speak..
Until we find Peace within ourselves.. then we will always be out of balance.. Warring using religion as a weapon. as the positive and Negative Energy will remain in conflict ..

Thank you for allowing me to express myself, and use some of what I posted in a reply to another debate about religion .. 🙂

Love and Peace dear Joe.. and thank you for allowing me to ramble along
