“Why Are Christians So…” (An Exercise That Will Break Your Heart)

I was intrigued by this post and found it quite thought provoking. A glimpse in the mirror of sorts for those who would ask why would people think that? Religion is the largest answer I would think.

Churches should always be seeking to uncover the questions our culture is currently asking.  Those questions are extremely valuable in helping us meet people right where they are.

Here’s a quick and easy way to get a snapshot of the questions that are being asked about us as Christians.  Head over to the Google or Yahoo search page.  Type in “Why are Christians so” and don’t press enter.  Just look at the drop down menu of the top searches containing that phrase. This works best with Yahoo (The initial results are at the top of this article).  Now type in any letter of the alphabet after that phrase (the results for “a” and “s” are below).

The overwhelming majority of those questions certainly don’t represent the Jesus I follow, the one in the bible, so what is going on?

  1. One thing Joe I have seen many forget.. is that LOVE is supposed to be at the heart of ALL religion.. Love is what is lacking in many instances of Fear…. Once we learn the GOD is LOVE and Man made Religion.. we see where the difference are..

    • Thank you Sue… I came across the post and found it quite interesting as well so much so I had to re post it. I had many thoughts cross my mind as I read it and chose to just share the post in a positive way as it provoked so many thoughts. I had hoped it would inspire many thoughts and lead to the love you so noted! Thanks for sharing the love Sue! 🙂

  2. Why? A lot of this is due to incorrect teaching, incorrect dogma and human failings. There is too much responsibility placed with their God rather than with themselves. A failed system? No, it was set up that way to perpetuate the power of the priesthood and not to teach the Reality which is self-evident in the teachings of Jesus that we know of.
