Plato? Is the heart as important to quiet as the mind….

I wanted to share a thought or two inspired by one of the Greats… I love Plato and his way of provoking thoughts and making us question our own truths by asking the questions.

I had written in my previous post about quieting the heart and its validity as far as finding inner peace. A comment made me ask the question of myself and I would like to throw it out to you the people who share with and read my shared thoughts. I am curious by nature a Pandora of sorts always opening boxes and not wanting to be contained in one. A free spirit of sorts yet one that embraces the divine.

Was the journey and path chosen by Buddha a path of thought or perhaps a path of the heart. Did he seek his truth about the pain and suffering that exists and thrives in all of life motivated by thought or by the pure love of all that resonated in his heart? In the end as he found his truth was it purely a state of inner peace in his mind or consciousness as a state of heart and mind? Is consciousness and being aware just a state of mind or a combination of heart and mind. Can the heart feel sorrow and the mind feel peace? Do they co exist sorrow and peace? Can one have joy of heart and sadness in the mind?

Was Jesus the Johny Appleseed of mankind planting the seeds of acceptance and unconditional love that have been growing and blooming changing the way we evolve. Perhaps the many prophets and Lords we embrace were the greatest farmers of all time.

Just asking…

Thank you for sharing your time with me and allowing me to share a thought or two I am grateful and appreciate your presence and the smiles you bring. I also thank you for being the positive change our world needs making it a better place for all we share it with.:)

  1. The heart is simply a vital organ of all animals and with all the meanings and attributes it has it is, in my opinion, not advisable to use it in a spiritual context šŸ™‚

  2. Heart is where you find answers and mind is where questions are formed . when we get confused, we try and listen to the voice inside..we silence the mind and listen to heart. Sorrow and peace, are never together but sometimes, peace follows sorrow..I feel..that people can search and believe whatever they want..because we got a will… open eyes with mind..or else your heart will stop giving you answers.

  3. Peace is only gained through truth, even ugly undesirable truth. The way our minds work makes this so. For the Buddha to find truth or peace, it had to be with the mind for the heart will reject the ugly truths of life. When the mind is disturbed the heart can never be at peace.

  4. For me to see the inner peace needs to be in our soul, not in mind or in heart. Our soul needs to be feeded with love, also from ourselves, even this is the most difficult, at least for me.
Plato was very mind provoking and did ask many good questions, like mostly of the great philosophers did.
You did really get me to mind here Joe. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Very thought provoking. I’d say all joys are found through the heart and all ills perceived by the mind. Since the heart tries to reject the ills the mind is needed to see the truth of things, though that truth varies according to who perceives it.

    • I am grateful you read the post and chose to share the comment and the sentiment. I had hoped to provoke some thought and that people would share their thoughts, we all have different perspectives and the diversity of those perspectives and sharing them allows us all to grow and learn about each other. Thank you for taking time to read the post and sharing your thoughts and the smile your doing so has given me šŸ™‚ Joe

  6. I believe sorrow and peace can co-exist. I lost my husband, my soulmate last year in a tragic car accident. My life was changed instantly and grief has had many moments where it paralyzed me. There have been many moments where sorrow has engulfed me. But over the course of this year, it’s been an incredible journey of sorrow, and healing, and self discovery. I can honestly say there has been many moments where I have felt sorrow and peace and joy at the same time. I still miss him every moment, and with that comes an unimaginable sorrow. But with acceptance of my new life I have also found peace. I am still baffled myself how it is possible. But even as I type this, i have a deep sadness for what has occurred, but also a quiet peace and joy for what is to come.

    • I am sorry for your loss. I appreciate you sharing your heart and your sentiment as well as such a beautiful perspective on the subject.
